Biography
Scotland - Australia - Scotland
5 x World Champion and Red Hot Chilli Piper Kyle Warren is firmly established back in Scotland after spending five years living and piping in Australia.
Before emigrating, Kyle was a member of the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band, winning seventeen of twenty major titles in four years (2011-2014), which included a history making double ‘Grand Slam’, four World Championship titles in a row and four Champion of Champions titles in a row. Kyle was also a full-time member of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers touring worldwide, having joined the famous ‘Bag-Rock’ band after graduating with a First-Class Honours degree in Scottish Music – Piping, from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
A world-class bagpiper and teacher, Kyle has taught at some of the leading independent schools across the globe, recorded pipes on the Disney Pixar Oscar winning movie Brave, previous finalist of the BBC Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the year, former Pipe Major of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland, winner of a Danny Kyle award with ‘TNT’ at Celtic Connections, Breton Championship winner in Lorient, France with Bagad Cap Caval, released his debut solo album Wanted and first book of music Tunez to high acclaim.
Whilst living in Australia Kyle was influential in laying the foundations for the return to Grade 1 of the Hawthorn Pipe Band in his role as Pipe Major. Other piping highlights included performing at the Melbourne F1 Grand Prix, joining the sensational Piano Guys on stage and travelling to Lorient, France to represent Australia at the prestigious MacCrimmon solo piping contest.
On his return to Scotland Kyle rejoined Field Marshal Montgomery for two more seasons, got those red socks back on to ‘Bag-Rock’ with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, released his second collection of bagpipe music titled EAT SLEEP PIPE REPEAT and released his second solo album titled Relentless, having signed to Scotland’s leading traditional music label - Greentrax.
In 2022 Field Marshal Montgomery won the World Pipe Band Championships for a record thirteenth time under legendary Pipe Major Richard Parkes MBE. This was Kyle's fifth World Championship win and fifth Champion of Champions title in five years as a member of Northern Ireland's most successful pipe band ever.
TV appearances include CBBC’s Blue Peter and educational series What’s in Your Bag? as well as casting to appear as piper to the Clan MacKenzie of Leoch in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, prequel to the original multi award winning series Outlander.
Kyle joined Scottish indie/alternative band Travis onstage at the iconic OVO Hydro in Glasgow as part of their Raze the Bar world tour, and more recently joined metalcore band Bleed From Within on the UK leg of their headline European tour at sold out shows at the O2 Forum London, O2 Ritz Manchester and two nights at the famous Barrowlands venue in Glasgow.
Despite such a busy performance schedule Kyle continues to share his passion for bagpipes through teaching and holds the position of Director of Pipes and Drums at one of the most prestigious independent schools in Scotland.
The release of Kyle’s third collection of bagpipe music titled PLAY in summer 2025 brings fifty new compositions to the piping and folk music world, further cementing Kyle’s recognised place as one of the leading composers of his generation world-wide.
